arrows 30-MILE SUBARU CONVOY CELEBRATES THE LIFE OF COLIN MCRAE

colin mcrae
On August 30, 2008, an estimated 1,100 Subaru vehicles gathered in Colin McRae’s hometown of Lanark in Scotland and traveled approximately nine hours and 300 miles to the Subaru World Rally Team’s Banbury headquarters in England. At one point, the convoy stretched 30 miles long.

The next day, 1,086 Subaru vehicles were arranged in formation to spell the words Colin McRae and form the Scottish saltire. Both the convoy and the formation set Guinness World Records.

In the process, the tribute raised more than $70,000 (U.S. dollars) for the McRae charities.

arrows GT LIVE EAST AT VIRGINIA INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY

VIR is laid out amid rolling hills of tobacco fields along the Virginia-North Carolina state line, south of Danville. It’s probably a peaceful part of the country – not counting race weekends!

The GT LIVE organization brings added chaos to a race weekend, but in a good way. Held in conjunction with the Grand-Am KONI Challenge Series race finales October 2-5, this year’s GT LIVE East included drifting, Red Line Time Attack, SIM races, two Skip Barber series races, and two six-hour KONI Challenge races – one for the Street Tuner class and one for the Grand Sport class.

In the midst of cars racing/drifting on both VIR courses, Subaru of America, Inc. held a WRX Track Attack to showcase the 2009 WRX, and the company’s South Central Region provided a gathering place for Subaru owners. Local dealerships also participated.

At the Region’s tent, Subaru owners entered drawings for T-shirts, cases of oil, gift certificates, SIM rides, free karting time at VIR’s kart track, and other prizes.
